LaTara Johnson-Taylor

LaTara Johnson-Taylor is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Atlanta VA Medical Center as a Contract Liaison specializing in mental health disorders and addictive diseases. LaTara is a graduate of The Florida State University, where she received a BS in Criminology and immediately following a MSW in Social Work. She is a seasoned clinician with over 15 years of experience. She has also completed work toward a MPH from University of South Florida.

After graduation, LaTara worked in various fields within mental health. She began her career as a Guardian ad Litem with the State of Florida, followed by private adoptions and foster care. She continued her work with youth as a Behavioral Health Clinician with Fulton County Juvenile Courts, where she developed and implemented the courts first gender-specific program for females and worked with youth who were sexually exploited. She has worked with United Behavioral Health as a care advocate and life coach. She has volunteered with various organizations over the years, with one of her favorites being with SistaSpace as mentor with at-risk females.

Mrs. Johnson-Taylor has been with the Atlanta VA Medical Center since 2008, having a strong desire and passion to work with veterans after the passing of her father in 2007 who was a Vietnam era veteran. Since her tenure she has worked in various capacities within the mental health department. She currently serves as a Contract Liaison who oversees contract services for veterans who are dually diagnosed with mental health and substance use disorders.

She is a certified School Social Worker in the State of Georgia, a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a former member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Fraternity.

Mrs. LaTara Johnson-Taylor has been married for seven years and the mother of a three year old son. She and her husband are expecting their second child in late February 2017.
